This book probably won't make you the world's greatest SFX artist, but it sure is a solid foundation that will give you a strong basic understanding of the software.
I have also tried the books for InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop and can say that they are all fantastic. I highly reccomend them, even if you may know other Adobe programs already. Strangely, by default some of the controls -- such as corner handles -- do not work the same as in other Adobe programmes and, for instance,when you re-size something by dragging along an edge it re-sizes in both directions from the centre, which is somewhat counter-intuitive.
These are a couple of the reaqsons why I was compelled to buy this book. I have not been disappointed. It is really excellent at slowly inculcating lasting knowledge of this -- one o Adobe's most powerful programmes and one of the industry standards for post-production. Worth every penny. Would have given this 5 stars, but for the fact that the CD that comes with it was slightly warped and therefore completely useless. Lesson Files were available to download from an external source so this wasn't an issue in the end. Report abuse. I really do enjoy these books - they are great for those just starting out and maybe intermediates who use but don't always understand why they are doing things - AE can be confusing! Great series, well written but nothing really new for the professionals!
Use this. The way the lessons work with the materials is just perfect. I got through the book in a week on my lunch breaks at work, and have used the knowledge gained in my job already. Adobe After Effects is designed for the professional user and is not as intuitive or straightforward for the beginner as an Ap. If you want to get started quickly this book, which comes with all the files for the tutorials on a CD, is a very effective way to get you up and running. I love it!
